THE CHURCH PERIODICAL CLUB (CPC)

THE CHURCH PERIODICAL CLUB (CPC) was founded in 1888 by Mary Ann Fargo. While on a trip to the Dakotas, she learned of the great need for Bibles and other inspirational literature. Mrs. Fargo and her friends at the Church of the Holy Communion-New York sent bundlesof books and periodicals westward to missionaries and pioneers.

From these small beginnings the network of CPC has spread throughout the Anglican Church. The mission of Alabama’s CPC is to provide funds to assist seminarians from the Diocese of Alabama. The first Sunday in May is traditionally our day of observance, but each Parish may choose their own day. Contributions are divided and distributed each Fall.

Contributions may be made to Church Periodical Club via check to:

ECW, Diocese of Alabama with CPC on the memo line.

The Church Periodical Club’s ministry is to provide paper or electronic books, magazines, workbooks, and educational software FREE to organizations sponsored by the Episcopal Church or Anglican Communion who otherwise cannot obtain them, and to raise the money to do this.

The Church Periodical Club is “Church” because its work is carried out through The Episcopal Church and grants must be sponsored by an Episcopal or Anglican Communion organization. It is “Periodical” because it makes grants and has projects on a schedule. It is “Club” because it has members who carry out its ministry together in parishes, dioceses, provinces, and the world.

CPC PRAYER:

“Bless 0 Lord, The Church Periodical Club, that it may be an instrument for the spread of your Word throughout the world. Grant to its officers wisdom and patience, to its members perseverance and the spirit of sharing that asks no return. Bring more to take part in its mission and ministry. Bless our gifts and those who receive them, to the enrichment of individual lives, that we all may be servants of the risen Lord. Amen.”
