Sucarnochee Purls
In January
of 2006 a group of lady knitters met in Livingston, AL to form the
Sucarnochee Purls, and become part of an ever-expanding circle of
shawl makers. Our purpose is to knit shawls/lap robes to bring
warmth and comfort to others. These shawls/lap robes vary in
size and color, but are usually made by the same pattern of “knit
three, purl three”. The three stitch seed pattern was selected
as symbolic of the Trinity; Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
This
shawl/lap robe has been blessed by the prayers of at least one
ordained minister or priest, and the prayers of the ladies involved in
this ministry. May it bring you comfort and inspiration.

The
following is one of the prayers we use:

May
God’s grace be upon this shawl…
Warming, comforting, enfolding and embracing.
May this mantle be a safe haven…
A sacred place of security and well-being…
Sustaining and embracing in good times as well as difficult
ones.
May the one who receives this shawl be cradled in hope, kept in
joy, graced with peace, and wrapped in love.
In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
This shawl color is:
The colors signify:
While the knitter worked she prayed,
-
That your fears may be relieved
-
That you have a hope for the future
-
That you have grace for the moment
