MINISTRIES and RESOURCES

AID TO INMATE MOTHERS is a prison mission project directed toward mothers in prison, concerning visitation of their children.  207 Montgomery Street, Montgomery, AL 36014, (334) 262-2245.

 

THE BISHOP’S GUILD was formed in 1982 by the ECW of the Cathedral Church of the Advent.  It includes the Birmingham ECW Convocation. Its primary function is to coordinate receptions held in conjunction with the ordination of priests and other diocesan events held at the Cathedral.  Some funds are provided by the ECW of the Cathedral, supplemented by donations from other parishes directly involved.   If your parish is among those attending a function at the Cathedral, your participation is expected and is deeply appreciated.  Contact the Bishop’s Guild Chairman at The Cathedral Church of the Advent or the Birmingham Convocation Coordinator.

 

CAMP McDOWELL is the Camp and Conference Center for the Diocese of Alabama.  Located in Winston County, just off Ala 195, between Jasper and Double Spring, it boasts beautiful woodlands, well-marked hiking trails and Clear Creek for canoeing.

CURSILLO is an ongoing Christian renewal movement highlighted by a weekend experience at Camp McDowell, sponsored by the diocese five times each year.  Contact your Rector or visit the Cursillo website at http://www.alabamacursillo.org/.

ECW Prayers and Mission Statements

 

EPISCOPAL RELIEF AND DEVELOPMENT, 815 Second Avenue, New York, NY 10017.  Applications for grants are awarded twice a year with deadline to the diocese February 15.  Contact Joanna Ware at (205) 871-6723.  The development of Mission and Outreach will provide local review for all grant proposals going from parishes and institutions within the Diocese of Alabama.

 

THE ORDER of the DAUGHTERS of the KING is an Order for laywomen of the Episcopal Church.  Every member pledges herself to a lifelong rule of prayer, service and personal evangelism, dedicated to the extension of Christ’s kingdom and to strengthening the spiritual life of her parish. MOSES' BASKET PROJECT - service project of St Luke's Scottsboro

Moses' Basket provides a layette for newborns of mothers referred from DHR and CASA. The "basket" is a large brown bag with rope handle and a label on the front with the Moses' Basket logo designed by a church member (woman). Each basket contains sleepers, onesies, shirts, blankets, bottles, pacifier, booties, bibs, a book plus a care package for the mommy with body lotion, body wash and hand cream.  Contact: Gini Stone gstone@hiwaay.net

 

POWER SOCKS - a ministry organized by Deacon Louise Thibodaux.  Knitters donate the time and materials to make handknit socks, then sell the socks for charity to help women with rising utility bills and transportation costs.  Contact Deacon Louise Thibodaux (yellowboots@charter.net) about ways you might become part of this worthwhile project.
