Wall Vase
by Doug Smith
This wall vase hangs securely from a
hook or nail. It is approximately 8 1/2 inches long. Wall vases or "wall
pockets" are an old-fashioned folk form. It is thrown upside down without a
"bottom" then closed at the "top" like tying a balloon. It can hold flowers,
dried arrangements, cooking utensils, pens and pencils or living plants like
ivy. This glaze combination is called Laurel and Garnet which are overlapped so they
intermingle during the firing. The rim of this piece is polished for a
smooth finish and has the potter’s mark of Doug Smith to verify its
origin.
