St. Luke's Episcopal Church (established in 1878), in Scottsboro, Alabama, instituted its first chapter of the Daughters of the King on Sunday, January 27th, 2008. The new chapter was named "Ruth" by the members in honor of Mrs. Ruth Bradford who spent her life serving Christ and St. Luke's Church. Jennifer Doss, previously of St. Luke's Birmingham, St. Anne Chapter, led the members-to-be through more than twelve weeks of study and preparation. Six new members were admitted to the Order on the 27th. Two Daughters-at-Large also join the chapter. The Diocese of Alabama Daughters of the King President, Andi Silberman, attended the Eucharist and presented the new members and the Charter to the presiding clergy, the Rev. Matt Doss. |

February 2007: Grace Church Cullman DOK hosts St. Thomas Huntsville DOK
The Daughters of the King of the St. Brigid of Ireland Chapter, Grace Church, Cullman, hosted a celebration of The Eucharist and a brunch for the St. Brigid Daughters from St. Thomas in Huntsville on February 10, 2007. Each year since 2001 the two chapters have alternated hosting the get-togethers in remembrance of St. Brigid on her feast day. Those present this year in Cullman were (front row, left to right): Rosemary Roberts, Marge Roberts, Beth Luck, Linda Mixon, Marge Schafer, Beth Cook, Claire Pickett, and Cheryl Fitzgerald; (back row, left to right) Libbie Puckett, Mary Kate Shade, Roberta Armstrong, Norma Zeigler, Bobbie Ferguson, Audrey Herrick, Ann Pollard, Judy Thomason, Kay Blackwell, the Rev. Diocesan DOK Banner
We have a brand new diocesan banner that was created and donated by past Diocesan President, Janet von Gal. The Alabama flag is also the flag of St. Andrew’s. The Governor flew this Alabama flag over the Capitol, in honor of the Daughters. Janet then had the DOK cross appliquéd onto the Alabama flag. It is beautiful! Andi Silberman has carried this banner to all of the Diocesan and Province functions. |

The Mary & Martha of Bethany Chapter of St. Matthew's, Madison hosted a Fall Retreat for the ladies of the Lois and Eunice Chapter of St. Timothy’s.
The retreat was held October 20-21, 2006 at the Joe Wheeler State Park Lodge in Rogersville. Women from St. Matthew's of Madison, Nativity of Huntsville, and St. Timothy's of Athens, Alabama were in attendance. St. Timothy's is starting a new chapter, thanks to the St. Matthew's Chapter leadership. These women are spreading the Word and really living into their vows. |
