New Charter of the DOK  On May 11, 2008 a new charter for St. Michael & All Angels was presented to Rev. Mark Waldo, Jr. by Andi Silberman, the Diocesan President. See photo of group involved in our photo gallery. This special event was held at the 10 am service on Pentecost, which seemed very appropriate for the celebration. There were 6 Daughters taking their vows. While preparing and studying, the women of this group wrote a special prayer for their parish that they would like to share it with everyone:

Dear Father, we come to you giving thanks for all that you are and all that you have done in our lives. Thank you for drawing us to your throne and for the many daily blessings you give us. We pause right now and ask you to empty us of self and all that burdens us and separate us from you...(pause). Now fill us, we pray, with your love and peace. May our focus be always on you and your will for our lives. We invoke, O Lord, your Holy Spirit to come down and minister to us. We pray that the words of our mouths and the meditations of our hearts would be pleasing and acceptable to you.

Be with our parish O Lord. We lift up Mark our priest, Bill our deacon and those in leadership roles on our vestry and ECW. Fill them with your Holy Spirit that they may sense a nearness of you in their lives. May they trust in you each day and be directed to lead and nurture our church down the path you would have us to go. We pray also for those in our parish and in our hearts: the sick, the homebound, and those with needs known only to you. We offer them up to you by name (spoken or in silence). May you grant them grace, healing, patience, peace, and your strength as they go through each day.

Lord, be with us also we pray. May you open our eyes to the needs of those around us. May we be sensitive to your leading and guidance in our lives. May we search out where you would have us to serve and the gifts you would have us to use. May we always have an attitude of gratitude for what you have done and are about doing in our lives. May we pray fervently and labor diligently to further your kingdom. All this we ask in your son Jesus Christ’s name. AMEN

  • Daughters of the King - Ruth Chapter - Chartered in Scottsboro, AL - see photo.  St. Luke's Episcopal Church (established in 1878), in Scottsboro, Alabama, instituted its first chapter of the Daughters of the King on Sunday, January 27th, 2008. The new chapter was named "Ruth" by the members in honor of Mrs. Ruth Bradford who spent her life serving Christ and St. Luke's Church. Jennifer Doss, previously of St. Luke's Birmingham, St. Anne Chapter, led the members-to-be through more than twelve weeks of study and preparation. Six new members were admitted to the Order on the 27th. Two Daughters-at-Large also join the chapter. The Diocese of Alabama Daughters of the King President, Andi Silberman, attended the Eucharist and presented the new members and the Charter to the presiding clergy, the Rev. Matt Doss.

6/20/07:

We are very excited to announce the birth of Ruby Pierce Gonzalez. She is the first grandchild of our Chaplain and her husband, the Rev. Alison and Richard Carmody. Ruby was born at 2:45 pm today and weighed in at 8lbs 2oz. Alison and Richard’s daughter, Betsy, and Ruby are doing fine.

5/24/07:

Click here for an audio file of Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori at Kanuga last October 2006.  We had Lord Carey (former archbishop of Canterbury) as our featured guest and speaker.  PB Katharine was at Kanuga for a separate retreat (Alison Carmody was there with her).  Katharine came to our retreat and thanked us for our prayers.  It is a deeply moving and wonderful sound bite (about 3 minutes).

3/26/07:

The Daughters of the King of the St. Brigid of Ireland Chapter, Grace Church, Cullman, hosted a celebration of The Eucharist and a brunch for the St. Brigid Daughters from St. Thomas in Huntsville on February 10, 2007.  Each year since 2001 the two chapters have alternated hosting the get-togethers in remembrance of St. Brigid on her feast day. See photo of those in attendance that day.

Dear Sisters in Christ:
   Please begin praying about sending a delegate from your DOK Chapters to Triennial 2009.  It is extremely important for mainstream Episcopalians to be at present for voting at Triennial, which will be in Anaheim, California June 30-July 5, 2009 with our General Convention that year.  More details will follow.  This will give plenty of time to gather the funds that will give us a voice and vote for your Order.
FHS and with love,  Andi

6/28/06:  Bishop Parsley has asked that the DOK pray the following specific prayer for the Acts2 Campaign:

     Gracious God, you bestow on us all that we are and all that we possess; give us grateful hearts and a renewal of our vision for your mission in the Diocese of Alabama through the Acts 2 Campaign.
     Inspire each of us to ask what you want to do through us to accomplish your will for the church;
     Grant us generous hearts and courageous wills to reach beyond ourselves and offer together our best for the building up of your church and for the service of your beloved world;
     Make us a bright beacon of hope for all people; and in this endeavor give us the joy of our Lord who shows us that in giving we receive; Through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
